START (ex-Summer Student Programme) is an onsite JINR student programme intended for students under 30 from all over the world who specialise in science, engineering, and IT, starting from their 4 year of undergraduate studies up to the 1st year of PhD.
Our main goal is to assist JINR laboratories in finding young talented specialists to be further employed at JINR.

How to apply

To become a START participant, you need to take a few simple steps

Register

Register on the website by clicking the +Student button and filling in the registration form. Afterwards, please check your e-mail for further instructions. You will receive a notification regarding your registration status once your profile has been reviewed and approved by the START team. Additionally, please monitor your profile regularly for any updates and respond promptly as needed.

Choose a session and apply

Our programme runs all year round. Every year, two sessions are held - winter and summer. Each session has fixed application deadlines and a recommended time interval for participants’ visit to Dubna. Within this interval, the participants are invited to come for the term of 6-8 weeks agreed with their project supervisors. For a comprehensive overview of the registration process for a session, please refer to the "How do I apply?" section.

Get selected

After submitting your application for a session, please await the preselection results. We strongly encourage you to check your mailbox regularly for important updates and instructions. The final selection results will be published on the session webpage.

Choose a Session

Each Session has a fixed application deadline and a time interval recommended by the Team, within which the student is invited to come
and stay in Dubna for 6-8 weeks in agreement with the supervisor who recommended you for the position.
Please carefully review the eligibility requirements for applicants.
Once you have confirmed that you meet the necessary criteria, select the session in which you wish to participate
and click the APPLY button to proceed with your application.

  • Prior to submitting your application, please ensure that you meet and can provide official documentation for the following primary requirements:
        1. Your academic discipline aligns with one of the JINR scientific fields and is included in the current topical plan.
        2. You are enrolled as a 4th- or 5th-year undergraduate student, a Master's student, or a first-year PhD student under the age of 30.
    Begin your registration by clicking the +Student button on the website. Complete the registration form thoroughly and upload all required documents, including:
        • Your graduation certificate
        • Academic transcript and proof of undergraduate enrollment
        • Your up-to-date CV
        • A recommendation letter
        • A motivation letter
    Wait for your form to be approved by the Team. Afterwards, you will receive an email with a login and password to be able to log in as a Student to apply for a Session.
    Select a Session you like to participate in and press APPLY. Wait for the selection results. The final selection date is indicated on the Session webpage. Please check your mailbox regularly.

  • Participation in the Programme presupposes working on an advanced-level research project under the supervision of a JINR expert. Selected students are invited to Dubna for 6-8 weeks. At the end of their stay, they prepare a written report on the work they have done, which is posted on the Programme website.

  • You get an opportunity to:
    • be trained at the currently operating JINR facilities
    • become part of the multinational team
    • make up their mind on the topic of their future thesis
    • find a scientific supervisor
    • build useful contacts
    • raise their chances of being hired by JINR.

  • Participants of the START programme are accommodated in the JINR hostel on a free-of-charge basis, receive a daily allowance of 2000 rubles per day, get transport, visa, and insurance costs reimbursed.
